In Memory Of

John Roes Photo Gallery - Memorial At Sea

On Friday, October 10, 2008, the Roes Family (Sonja, Mike, Anuschka, Debbie, Randy, and Philip) took a sailing trip to scatter John's ashes at sea. As John was such a dedicated sailor for much of his life, this was an appropriate and beautiful "send-off" for him.

Prior to releasing John's ashes into the ocean, a small ceremony was held at which we read the William Penn poem on the home page, along with the following Walt Whitman poem.

Song of Myself (excerpt)

What do you think has become of the young and old men?
And what do you think has become of the women and children?
They are alive and well somewhere.
The smallest sprout shows there is really no death,
And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not
Wait at the end to arrest it.
And ceas'd the moment life appear'd.
All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses,
And to die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier.

The photos below were captured on that warm autumn day.

Rest in Peace, John. We will always love and remember you!
